Atlantis' Hubble Crew Arrives at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for Launch

Space shuttle Atlantis' seven-member crew arrived at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla. on Friday, May 8, for its STS-125 mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope.

The crew members are Commander Scott Altman, Pilot Gregory C. Johnson and Mission Specialists John Grunsfeld, Mike Massimino, Megan McArthur, Andrew Feustel and Michael Good.

Atlantis is scheduled to launch at 2:01 p.m. EDT on May 11. The 11-day mission will include five spacewalks to refurbish Hubble with state-of-the-art science instruments designed to improve the telescope's discovery capabilities by up to 70 times while extending its lifetime through at least 2014.

STS-125 Launch

After a smooth countdown and picture-perfect liftoff, space shuttle Atlantis and a crew of seven astronauts are in space, ready to begin their 11-day mission to service NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Atlantis lifted off Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 2:01 p.m. EDT.
